Qawra-Dwejra Heritage Park Action Plan

The following are letters sent to MEPA and copied to RAM. View the complete plan on the MEPA website

"I have had a look at the Public Consultation Draft of the Qawra/Dwejra Heritage Park Action Plan. I fully support this initiative, and would also urge you to push for the designation of this site as a UN World Heritage Site."

I would like to express my strong support for the proposals for the area which includes an extension of the current bird sanctuary and the planned setting up of a marine protected area where spearfishing (sic) and commercial fishing will be banned. I feel that it is about time that Malta started to cater for a new type of tourist. Friends of ours who belong to Ramblers Associations abroad often ask us about the possibility of Rambling and nature holidays in Malta - not everyone is interested merely in a sun and beach holiday. Many nature lovers enjoy going to areas where they can relax, walk through the country and enjoy the native flora and fauna. Anything which caters for this type of visitor would help to make Malta more appealing to another type of tourist while generating more income for the economy. There are also many Maltese Ramblers and nature lovers who would also welcome this plan.

Thank you for taking these comments into consideration.

I am writing you this email to offer you my support to the proposed heritage plan for the Dwejra/Qawra area. This heritage plan must not be changed for the sake of hunting and trapping! Do not bow to the pressure from a small minority who think that the Maltese Islands belong solely to them.
