Marfa Ridge East 8th December 2006
This walk turned out into something of a disappointment - both
for members as well as the organisers. What was forecast as a day
with isolated rain showers turned out into an incessant drizzle
which lasted most of the morning - with a thunderstorm
thrown in
for good measure.
Nevertheless some 65 Ramblers still turned out at Ghadira and
as soon as the wallk started the rain did so as well. So far so
good. We proceeded along the Ghadira Road and then via a lane next
to the Mellieha Bay Hotel which eventually led to a coastal path. A
further ten minutes brought us to the small cove of Ta l-Imgharrqa.
It was here that in addition to the rain the sound and sight of
approaching thunder and lightning was gettting ever closer and a
decision was taken to cut short the route and make for the l-Ahrax
Road, passing through an acacia grove on the way.

Ta l-Imgharrqa cove in better weather
Seeing no immediate improvement in the weather it was decided
that for safety reasons we make our way back to the meeting point
(in spite of some peoples' obvious disappointment) thus cutting
down what was planned as a four-hour walk drastically to an hour
and a half.
Due to the unfortunate circumstances and the fact that some
members abandoned the walk even earlier than the main group, we
will endeavour to repeat this walk later on - hopefully in better
weather.
