Apr - Jul 2009 Walks:
Current Walks Programme
Recent Newsletter

Our Assocaion is proposing a Tour to the Canary Islands that will last fifteen days, from the 29th September to the 13th October 2009. The number of participants will be very restricted and as usual members will be taken first-come first-served basis.

The choice of the Canary Islands was made as the unique opportunity presented itself with the Conference of the European Ramblers' Association (ERA) being held there. For the occasion the ERA is organising a series of tours that are very interesting and that will give the opportunity to participants to visit and walk on the islands of La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera and Tenerife. Since it is envisaged that it will be necessary to transit in Madrid, two days will be spent in the capital of Spain giving our members the chance to visit the interesting sites there.

This is the brief programme of the Tour. More details will be given later to the participants:

Tuesday 29.09 - Flight: depart Malta10.55am Arrive Madrid 1.55pm

Wednesday 30.09 - Day in Madrid

Thursday 01.10 - Flight: depart Madrid 1.05pm Arrive La Palma 3.00pm

Friday 02.10 - La Palma

Saturday 03.10 - La Palma

Sunday 04.10 - Boat trip: depart La Palma 4.45pm Arrive El Hierro 6.30pm

Monday 05.10 - El Hierro

Tuesday 06.10 - Boat trip: depart El Hierro 4.00pm Arrive La Gomera 5.00pm

Wednesday 07.10 - La Gomera

Thursday 08.10 - Boat trip: depart La Gomera 5.00pm Arrive Tenerife 6.00pm

Friday 09.10 - Tenerife

Saturday 10.10 - Tenerife

Sunday 11.10 - Flight: depart Tenerife 6.30pm Arrive Madrid 10.15pm

Monday 12.10 - Madrid

Tuesday 13.10 - Flight depart Madrid 7.50am Arrive Malta 10.30am

The days in the Canary Islands will be full of activities, cultural visits, talks and walks that will be organised by the Association of La Palma. The days will be programmed from breakfast to dinner, with little time to spare if you would want to part-take of all the activities. The two and a half days in Madrid will be free for all to do as they wish although some joint activity may be taken up.

Except for the duration in Madrid, where accomodation on B&B is provided for, the rest of the tour will be on full-board basis. Included also are the costs of all transfers to and from airports, excursions, boat-trips and buses. What is not included in the price quoted below are dinners in Madrid since everybody will be left free to do as they please there.

The price of the tour will be €1650-00 and does not include insurance cover, which is obligatory for all participants. It may vary slightly if flight costs go up as they usually do over a time. This is why so little time is being allowed for you to consider and confirm.

Those interested are kindly asked to write immediately expressing their interest. Closing date for joining the tour is 30th June 2009. For more information kindly phone on 99497080 before the 27th June.

Welcome

13th June 2009 - World Environment Day

On the occasion of World Environment Day, The Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth and Sport together with the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport, to which the Ramblers' Association of Malta (RAM) is affiliated, is organising a half day of sport events and a tour at the GAIA Foundation on the 13th June 2009. Sporting events and other social activities will be centered around Golden Bay.

For this occasion the Association is organising two contemporaneous walks, both starting from the car park in Ghajn Tuffieha, to cater for all grades of walkers. Participants are asked to gather near the bus stop.

One walk, starting at 08:30am, will be directed to the new park at Majjistral, where the National Park is in the process of being set up. This walk, which is graded as easy and mostly on level garigue, will take in every important aspect of the new nature park, and lead around the top of the cliffs looking down onto the splendid views of Rdum id-Delli.

The other walk is tougher and intended for more hardy walkers. The route will cross the Majjistral park and head for the northwest cliffs, from where we will descend down a path route to the rocky coastline beneath. The terrain on this route is more uneven and difficult but has been rambled with pleasure many a time before. This walk is longer and will start at 8:00am.

The two walks are being organised at the same time in order to give a choice of differently graded walks to participants, one that is easy and another that is moderate-to-hard. Both will start from the same place (the Ghajn Tuffieha car park) and both finish at 11.00hrs on the sandy beach of Ghajn Tuffieha. The culmination of the many activities organised by the Kunsill will take place at the GAIA centre that tops the beach, situated behind the Apple's Eye Restaurant.

You are invited to come and bring your friends along on this day of celebration to uphold the importance of physical exercise and a healthy environment for a better quality of life. The walks are free for all. It will be a good idea to wear a hat and use protective lotion against the sun.

Come and celebrate with us. Be there in time for the walk of your choice

Annual General Meeting 2009. Read the Minutes and Reports here...

...

The Ramblers Association of Malta ( RAM ) was set up in February 2005 on the initiative of Lino Bugeja who had long led a one-man campaign in the press against whole swathes of countryside and a good number of country paths and lanes being closed off little by little by means of gates, fences and those ubiquitous signs claiming " RTO " or suchlike.

:: about our logo
Our logo is simple and portrays the local landscape as everybody will at once perceive it, with little green and more earth colours and lots of blue. Light and nature are the motivating factors, just what prompts ramblers to the feeling of easiness and freedom of outside life in natural surrounds, and away from the bustling crowds and routine of everyday life.

The logo was created by Steve Bonello
